Meet the Expert:
Jay Moore
Senior Account Executive
What got you into this business in the first place?
After a couple of weeks working around the clock at the NBA All-Star weekend,
I gained the trust of a few key individuals within the organization. Those relationships (along with
a little persistence) helped me land a position within the National Basketball Association’s communications
group. I jumped at the opportunity, moved to New York City and the rest, as they say, is history.
What talent do you wish you had?
I wish I had the talents of Mozart or Beethoven where I could just hear music in my
mind and then turn it into an unbelievable melody. The thought of being able to naturally compose
symphonies amazes me more than any other talent.
What was your “finest moment,” the thing you're most proud of?
While working on my masters at University of San Francisco, I was given the assignment
to write an article about someone who has influenced the sporting business world. Since I live for
basketball, I knew my dream interview would be with David Stern, Commissioner of the NBA. It seemed
like a long shot, but I managed to score a half-hour phone interview with Stern. Something went my
way because before I knew it, I was flying to NYC to interview the NBA Commissioner face-to-face! The
hour I spent in his corner office on Fifth Avenue was simply amazing.
What was college like for you?
Crazy. I earned my undergrad degree from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon.
You could say I tried to enjoy college as much as possible and experience it all. I sang in an opera,
took ballet class, lead a top ranked NCAA DIII basketball team, spent my senior year living in a RV and
maintained an above average GPA.
What do you do for a good time outside of work?
One of my true passions in life is photography. I love visualizing the image before
it happens, positioning myself to capture the perfect light, texture, form and energy and then
snapping the shutter to freeze one small moment in time. My goal with every image is to capture the
entire story within one single frame.
Is there a great client story you’d care to share?
It was the night before the Travelers Championship (golf) finals, and the communications
team went to celebrate over dinner. Knowing that the next day we’d need to present the tournament winner with
a Travelers Championship jacket (and not knowing what size jacket to select), we made up a game to predict who
would win the tournament so we could sew the patch on the jacket. Random selection pointed to Stewart Cink, whom
none of us thought would really claim the prize. But, when the final putt was made, Stewart Cink earned that
jacket! We still laugh about that. Maybe we should have played the lottery that night.
What attracted you to IMRE?
The energy and passion of IMRE employees. My coworkers are professional, witty, full of spunk
and exhibit a sense of family.
What makes a great brand?
Consistent messaging, a willingness to make adjustments through time and loyalty to your audience.
If you had to live on a desert island, what would you miss most?
If I were alone then I would miss my wife the most. But, if it happened to be that we
were stranded together, I would miss my camera. It would be a shame to be stranded on an island without a
way to document or capture the moments within the solitude of nature.
What’s your favorite sports team?
As a true Oregonian—the Portland Trail Blazers. They will always be my home team.
One of the highlights of my childhood was when my youth basketball team got to meet and talk with Clyde
Drexler, a Hall of Fame basketball player and one of the original Dream Team members.
What do you like most about working at IMRE?
Feeling like part of a big team. The company is riddled with smart, forward-thinking
individuals who push themselves to take chances, while providing results on a daily basis.
